Transportation in Krabi Part II

Posted on April 23, 2021April 17, 2021 by internetsailors

Taxis

Krabi also has normal taxis , and there are especially many of them in Krabi Town and Ao Nang. “Taxi Service” is a place where you can see fixed prices and where you can take a taxi or order it in advance. You can also order one from the hotel, but it is a good idea to ask about it in advance to avoid surprises.

Fixed fares are reasonable for at least 2-4 passengers. From Ao Nang you can take a taxi to Krabi town and vice versa for 500 baht and the airport for 600 baht. Taxis also make longer trips, and Phuket Airport, for example, can be reached for 2,500 baht and the rest of Phuket at a similar price.

It is also possible to take a taxi for your own use for a longer period. They are air conditioned and comfortable, and you can see different places for a few hours or all day. The taxi driver can also act as a guide and tell you about different destinations. A taxi is available for private use for many hours at around 2,500 baht.

Taxis can travel very long distances , up to six hours. In addition to the normal taxi that can take up to 4 passengers, Krabi, like the rest of Thailand, has larger taxis and minibuses that can accommodate a group of eight people.

You can rent a taxi from the website in advance or at least you can see what kind of opportunities there are. Krabi Taxi and Krabi Taxi Services are reliable and long-established companies.

Cycling and bike rental

You can ride a bike in Krabi, but there are hardly any bike paths or even good biking spots there. Thai roads are largely governed by jungle law , and in practice a larger vehicle has the right of way. Cycling, especially from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is a hot pastime, and it is also quite dusty during the dry winter season. It is not nice to cycle in the town of Krabi, as there are special streets, some of which are lively or at least surprising, and there are hills. Perhaps the best is to cycle in Ao Nang and even between it and Noppharat Thara. For a walk, it’s quite long, but by bike, the trip folds quickly and there’s a huge amount of traffic on the road.

In practice, the humid heat makes cycling during the day quite an alley run and after dusk it is by no means worth shaving and then it is not much cooler.

If you want to rent a bike, you can get one in the city of Krabi, Ao Nang and many other places, often from the same places where scooters and other outings are rented.

One possibility is to take part in a guided cycling trip , at least not to be misled and guaranteed to see something interesting. In the Krabi area, you can ride a mountain bike in the jungle and take various excursions in places where it is not as hot and dusty as the roads. Such excursions are organized by Krabi Eco Cycle , for example .

Scooter or car rental

Renting a moped or scooter is common, and one can get you well where you want. There is never a huge amount of traffic on the roads of Krabi, and there are not many steep hills or bends. However, previous experience of moped riding or scooter riding is a necessity, and it is not advisable for Krabi to start learning to ride in such a way. It’s also not worth jumping on the back of a scooter as soon as you get there, even if you have experience, and in the next few days it’s good to gather local knowledge on the apostle ride and on the open platform ride.

The scooter costs about 250 baht per day, and the gasoline is purchased yourself. It is sold locally in 0.7 liter whiskey bottles and costs a couple of euros a liter. The rider of the scooter must have a passport or a copy of the passport with him , and the passport must never be left with the renter as it is illegal. There is no insurance involved in renting a scooter , so it is a good idea to have travel insurance to cover damage, accidents and theft. In the event of an accident, a foreign moped rider in Thailand is always wrong and responsible.

Scooter rental is easy to locate for all Krabi concentrations. If you want to look in advance and possibly order a scooter for the hotel, rental companies such as Scooter Krabi and Krabi Moto Rentals .

Car rental and motoring

A car is usually a safer vehicle than a scooter, and such can be reasonably affordable for a group of four, for example. For the day, you can get a car with petrol and insurance for 1000 baht. If you pay a little more, you get a GPS and a better vehicle, and one is best obtained from an international rental company. It is not worth wasting your money on an all-wheel drive SUV, as there are no places where you would need one. Krabi’s roads are in good condition and off-road driving is not necessary there. You can hire a car from the airport, and there are other points like Krabi Car Rentals and Kayak .

If the renter does not have a driving license issued in an English-speaking country, he or she must have an international driving license , which can be obtained in advance online.
