The United Nations (UN) Report establishes the ranking of developed and underdeveloped countries in the world through the Human Development Index indicator . For the year 2017, the countries of Norway, Australia and Switzerland are the most developed countries in the world , according to this criterion. The Human Development Index is based on indicators such as population, health, education, employment, national wealth, average life expectancy, security, economic-social and environmental sustainability, gender differences, quality of human development and the perception of well-being. Taking into account these data, a value between 0 and 1 is established, which is given to each country, according to each of these parameters. Note for Portugal’s presence in this list of the most developed countries in the world , ranking 41st in this ranking established every year by the UN .
