In 2011, the population of Saint Kitts and Nevis was estimated to be around 51,000 people. The economy of the country was largely dependent on exports such as sugar, tourism and light manufactures, as well as services such as banking and finance. In terms of foreign relations, Saint Kitts and Nevis had strong ties with other Caribbean countries, as well as with Europe and North America. In terms of politics, Saint Kitts and Nevis had a constitutional monarchy which had been in power since 1983. According to Countryaah official site, the Opposition Party The Citizens’ Movement (CCM) questioned the official result and boycotted the work of the Assembly during the autumn. A judicial review of the election would begin after the New Year. Both parties advocate independence for Nevis. A new law to combat gang-related crime was adopted. A “take-back-street initiative” against crime was reported to produce good results in just a few months. Residents were encouraged to tip the authorities and a special force with police and military invested in zero tolerance for law violations.
