The Museum Palais Galliera in Paris pays tribute to Lanvin with an exhibition dedicated to Jeanne Lanvin (1867-1946) in which will be showcased more than 100 items belonging to the exclusive collections of the Galliera Museum and archive of the House of Lanvin. In collaboration with Alber Elbaz, Creative Director of the firm, the Galliera Museum so wanted to homenajar one of the oldest French fashion brands, as Mlle. Lanvin’s career began in 1885 as a Milliner (same as Gabrielle Chanel).
In 1889 he opened his boutique Lanvin Modes in number 16 of Rue Boissy D’anglas, followed in 1893 by the opening of the flagship of the brand in the number 22 of Faubourg Saint-Honoré. In 1897 was born Marguerite, his only daughter and his main source of inspiration. In 1908, he decided to create a line for girls, and the following year development also a line for women and another for girls.
That same year he joined the Union of designers, the Syndicat the couture, entering a part of the elite of French fashion houses. During the following years presented collections of lingerie, furs and wedding dresses. At the beginning of the twenties introduced his sport line. In 1926 this enterprising extended its business into the world of men’s fashion.
It came to have boutiques in Deauville, Biarritz, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Cannes and Le Touquet. The deep blue of the frescoes of Fra Angelico became his source of inspiration and in your favorite hue.
In 1927 he celebrated the 30th birthday of his daughter Marguerite throwing the famous Arpege perfume in a bottle designed by Armand Rateau was customized with the famous logo created by Paul Iribe representing the designer in the company of his daughter Marguerite. An image that even today continues to appear in all the creations from Lanvin.
Jeanne Lanvin was satisfied his curiosity through travel books, ethnic tissue samples and art books, finding in them the inspiration needed to create fabrics, patterns and colours. He was a true artist in everything related to the world of fashion, and with this exhibition we can check all the virtuosity and the craftsmanship the couture.
A fashion that is characterized by the contrast between the costumes to the pure 18th century with straight and defined lines of the Art Deco, with their prints in black and white, and the abundance of crystals and pearls sewn above silk.
This exhibition is a tribute to capacity, inventiveness and creativity of a great artist who knew how to capture and express the spirit of its time. A unique opportunity to meet Jeanne Lanvin, lfirst designer to invent the lifestyle, and to celebrate the 125th anniversary of a brand that continues to amaze by the expert guidance of Alber Elbaz.
