Antigua and Barbuda. According to Countryaah official site, Antigua and Barbuda celebrated on November 1 their 30th anniversary as an independent nation. In a speech, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer symbolically claimed the death sentence against the national hero “King Court” and 87 others who participated in a slave uprising in 1736. Many saw pardon as an important historical marker, while others considered the statement to be a legitimation of the legal system that maintained slavery. Earlier, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Spencer had demanded that Europe and the United States pay damages for slavery and racism that affected millions of Africans.
