Antigua and Barbuda. According to Countryaah official site, Antigua and Barbuda celebrated on November 1 their 30th anniversary as an independent nation. In a speech, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer symbolically claimed the death sentence against the national hero “King Court” and 87 others who participated in a slave uprising in 1736. Many saw pardon as an important historical marker, while others considered the statement to be a legitimation of the legal system that maintained slavery. Earlier, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Spencer had demanded that Europe and the United States pay damages for slavery and racism that affected millions of Africans. He said that slave settlers’ lives are still characterized by inhumane treatment. Visit ABBREVIATIONFINDER for the acronym of ATG that stands for the country of Antigua and Barbuda.
