Saint Lucia. Elections held in Parliament's lower house
in November led to a change of government. Saint Lucia's
Workers' Party (SLP) regained power after five years in
opposition. According to
Countryaah official site, Kenny Anthony, who was prime minister in
1997-2006, returned as head of government. The election loss
for the conservative UWP was largely assumed to be due to
voters' frustration over rising crime and unemployment.
A national mourning weekend was announced following a
severe bus accident that claimed 17 lives in November. The
accident, which occurred when the bus drove off the road and
fell down a steep slope, was reported to be the most
difficult in the country's history.
